The readers’ attention is invited to the second article of a series of articles about the technologies of wells drilling with a casing string or a liner. The article is devoted to the modern history of development of drilling systems with casing strings (DwC) since the late 1990s of technologies. DwC is implemented by two basic methods – with non-retrievable and retrievable assemblies to be used for drilling of vertical and inclined wells. Development of Russia’s DwC complex is based on the technology of drilling without pulling the pipes (DWPP) presented in the first article of this series. The number of engineering companies, merged later in «Baker Hughes Co.», originally developed DwC technology overseas. However, «Tesco Co.» started a real breakthrough in the industrial application of the system with the support of several international operator and service companies.

The article provides basic information about the developed systems, held experimental-industrial works and the main results of the application. The classification of developed and implemented technological schemes for DwC, including logging and cementing of the drilled interval is proposed. The comparative assessment of available technological schemes and restrictions on their use is given.

Key words: drilling with a casing string; retrievable assembly for drilling with a casing string; retractable drill bit; retractable reamer (under-reamer); drillable drill bit; retrievable downhole motor.

LABORATORY TESTS OF THE EFFECTIVENESS

While drilling oil wells, pressure fluctuations of drilling fluid and drilling tools lead to a narrowing of the range of downhole motors’ stable operation, injectivity decrease as per axial load, reduction of the operational life of surface and underground drilling equipment because of the dramatic increase of alternating nature efforts, which leads to a fatigue strength decrease. The results of numerous field studies prove the fact that the most negative impact on the drilling process is paid by low frequency vibrations, the main sources of which is the work of the piston-type mud pump. The pressure fluctuations of drilling mud and drilling tools can also be the cause of pollution of a formation bottom-hole area. The article presents the developed hydro-mechanical downhole compensator of drilling mud’s pressure fluctuations installed in the bottom assembly of the drill casing string. The description of the laboratory testing bench and testing results are also given.

Key words: vibrations of a drill casing string; well; mud pump; drilling mud; downhole hydraulic-mechanical compensator; pollution of a formation bottom-hole area.

In most cases of washing liquids absorption in productive deposits inter-layers it is only possible to reduce their intensity by adding of acid-soluble colmatants into the drilling fluid, followed by pumping of acid bridging packs. The residual absorption leads to significant financial costs caused by the additional supply of drilling mud. Special technology, applied for absorptions elimination in productive deposits and non-worsening their reservoir properties, wasn’t used in Perm region. The article highlights the progress and results of the development of a new acid-soluble insulating material for absorptions elimination in oil-bearing horizons.

Key words: drilling mud absorption; productive deposits; acid-soluble insulating material; insulating bridge; magnesia cement; fillers.

The article deals with the problems of evaluation of the operational life-time of the welded joints of offshore oil and gas structures (OOGS). Offshore stationary jacket-type platforms are chosen as the object of study. It is noted that by now there were no studies related to operational life-time of recovered (repaired) OOGS welded joints. With the help of «StructureCAD» and «SolidWorks» specialized software systems there were built models of offshore platforms and maximum values of alternating voltage amplitudes, operating in the welded joints in the conditions of the Black Sea were fixed. The results of the tests conducted and the post-processing of the data obtained served the basis for calculation of endurance limits of the repaired weld joints which for both T and for the K type made about 13 MPa. Characteristic points of dependence of a number of cycles prior to N failure on the amplitude values of alternating stresses σa are also obtained. The experiment allowed to build fatigue diagrams for restored welded joints T- and K-type of offshore stationary platforms. T-type welded joint was taken as an example to prove the fact that the operational life-time of the restored welded joint is substantially low than that of the new one.

Key words: offshore oil and gas structures; platforms; fatigue diagrams; alternating stresses; repaired welded joints; operational life-time; fatigue life; age limit.

The article discusses problems of evaluation of coalbed methane reservoirs by logging charts. The matrix variable density is used for common porosity evaluation. Based on the dual lateral logging, a model of fracture porosity estimation was created while fracture permeability into coal is predicted by means of application of Faivre – Sibbit method. Comparison between the estimated and measured data indicate that the established models are reliable.

Key words: coalbed methane; wells logging; reservoir evaluation; gas content; porosity; permeability.
