THREE-CONE JET-TYPE ROCK DRILLING BIT

WITH EJECTING THROUGH ARMS’ OPENINGS (ð. 7)

The paper presents the results of the work that was carried out to create a new design of three-cone jet-type rock drilling bit with ejecting through arms’ openings as well as a structural pattern of the similar bit with helical cutting assembly.

Based on the analysis of the design and operation of a simple water-jet pump it was found out that the use of such systems to intensify washing of the three-cone jet-type rock drilling bit should be specific. So, the length of the mixing chamber is essentially limited by the length of the arm’s opening, i.e. bit arm thickness in this section. Besides, there is no suction nozzle that should guide and, at the same time, limit the ejection effect of the water-jet pump. There is no mechanical separation of the suction zone from the mixing chamber outlet (drill bit arm’s opening) leading under certain parameters of the device to the undesirable inflow of the washing liquid back into the suction zone. Moreover, the value of the washing liquid discharge rate from the inlet supply pipe is closely connected with the value of the bit nozzles’ liquid discharge rate, thus preventing the change the flow-rates ratio during drilling.

Accounting of these specific features, when developing a bit construction with a new washing pattern, ensured determination of the following parameters: volume of mixed ejected liquid; liquid flow volume from the ejection nozzle; inner diameter of the ejection nozzle providing movement of the liquid flow towards the bit arm opening; diameter of the bit arm’s opening; length of the mixing chamber and its influence on the ejection; distance from the ejection nozzle end up to the cylindrical part of the mixing chamber opening.

One more promising direction of further updating of roller cone drilling tools in order to increase its efficiency and competitiveness is its equipment by helical cutting structures. Helical cutters of roller bits as opposed to wide-spread straight-tooth ones, allow controlling the of sludge evacuation direction both on the well-bottom surface and in the near-bottom zone, including over roller bit space. An important objective of the process optimization is prevention of the anti-movement occurrences between the directions of rock mechanical evacuation by roller bits teeth cutters and the main hydraulic flows of washing liquid. Only following this condition can significantly increase the effectiveness of the drill bit operation due to improvement of a well bottom cleaning from sludge.

The conducted work served the basis for developing of a prospective construction of roller drilling rock bits with lateral jet-type washing and ejection system as well as the constructive pattern of a similar bit with helical cutters. The tests have shown that equipping of roller cone drill bits with the ejection system in combination with the lateral jet-type washing can significantly improve the efficiency of their work.

Key words: roller-cone drill bit; ejection nozzle; helical cutting structures.

The article describes the structure of a straight-flow centrifugal separation element with a profiled flowing part used to reduce the effect of secondary droplet removal. The results of bench testing of upgraded centrifugal elements developed by JSC "NIPIgazpererabotka" with various geometrical characteristics of the profiled flowing part are presented. The results of testing served the basis for making conclusions about the geometrical parameters of the flowing part most beneficial in terms of aerodynamic characteristics and efficiency of liquid particles entrapment in the aerosol shape. Experimental data on the change of direction of the gas flow linear speed in the horizontal section of a centrifugal separation element are presented. The regularities of the linear speed change of the swirling gas flow in the main sections of the centrifugal element flow part are identified. The analysis of experimental data made it possible to come to the conclusion about positive effect of the reverse flows in the axial zone on the efficiency of the liquid part capture by the centrifugal element. Substantial increase of the efficient operation of the centrifugal separation element due to decrease of the effect of secondary droplets entrainment is noted.

The paper suggests a new method that allows more exactly and reliably than the existing methods to determine oil reservoir filtration characteristics using the whole curve (not only its asymptotic part) and also the main parameters of reservoir exploitation such as permeability, hydro-conductivity, pieso-conductivity and well productivity. It is shown that the task to determine hydrodynamic indices of a reservoir and wells by PRC is done correctly. Calculations for two different deposits showing the advantage of the suggested method as compared with the existing ones are given.

A significant amount of air coolers is operated in gas and a petrochemical industry in Russia and the near-abroad countries. Heat-exchange sections of the air coolers have bimetallic ribbed pipes (BRP), manufactured on the basis of the technology and equipment of "Spiro-Gills" firm that already worked out their operational life-time period. Tube banks of heat-exchange sections are physically worked out by the time and morally outdated as for electric power; they are also strongly polluted thus requiring replacement. With account of the above-said and the existing political-economic situation the authors of the article solved the problem of import substitution of ribbed pipes manufacturing applying the developed domestic technologies and equipment mastered by the industry. This fact stimulated carrying out of some experimental study in an air stream of a convective heat exchange, aerodynamic resistance and energy efficiency of staggered banks from bimetallic ribbed pipes manufactured with the help of the equipment of "Spiro-Gills" firm as well as by means of the equipment of VNIIPTHNA, ENIKmash, ENIKmash-Oktyabrskchimmash, implementing domestic technologies. It is shown that power perfection and thermal efficiency of domestic BRP correspond to import-substituted pipes characteristics, however, innovative technology of pipes ribbing developed by ENIKmash-Oktyabrskchimmash is much more productive than the technology of "Spiro-Gills" firm. Hence, technical and economic expediency of using home-manufactured BRP with wounded spiral aluminium KLM-ribs in heat-exchange parts of air coolers is quite proved.

During construction and operation of wells in the Northern and Arctic territories of the Russian Federation there appears the problem of thawing permafrost around wells. The thawing of permafrost occurs due to disturbances of its natural equilibrium as a result of the warmth from a produced fluid. The problem is solved by using thermal-insulated tubing (usually direction or tubing) or by installing thermal stabilizers with refrigerant circulation (freon-22, ammonia). But these methods are not effective enough because of impossibility of heat-exchange control in the "well-frozen rock" system. With account of the above-said, the authors develop downhole thermoelectric device based on thermoelectric Peltier effect.

The article describes some mathematical model of temperature distribution from the cold side of the downhole thermoelectric device along the shaft of its outer pipes.

Experience in operation of gas transportation systems proves the fact that the largest accidents with serious consequences occur because of late detection and elimination of gas leaks in underground pipelines. The amount of the lost gas depends on many parameters, including the parameters of the defect itself, the initial compressor plant and the environment. The article presents the results of gas loss calculation through the simulated penetration defects of the real site of "Soyuz" main gas pipeline.

The calculating algorithm consisted of three parts: calculation of natural gas physical properties by well-known formulas; thermal-hydraulic calculation of a gas pipeline sector and calculation of gas flow-rate through the defect.

When analyzing the presented dependences, it can be concluded that the least losses of gas during its passing through fistulas in the pipeline’s body are observed in the following cases:

– when a penetration defect of as small as possible size occurs at the beginning of the section between compressor stations;

– when a pipeline loading is the biggest, i. e. when the delivery data of the first compressor station are close to the pipeline capacity;

– when outlet gas pressure of the first compressor station is low;

– when atmospheric pressure values are the least possible ones, but soil temperature values at the depth of a pipeline location are high.

In this case the defect’s diameter and outlet gas pressure of the first compressor station pay the most significant influence on the losses value.

Key words: gas transportation system; main gas pipeline; gas losses through penetration defects.

The authors consider the problem of reliable and efficient performance of offshore drilling platforms. It is found out that one of the reasons for decreasing of the indications under review is poor quality of the electric energy generated by the local power-constrained plant when operating for heavy energy converters as well as imperfection of the system that controls its quality factors. Developing of new or upgrading of the well-known methods and techniques of improving the operation quality of the systems under consideration require solving of the qualimetry problems, followed, in its turn, by the necessity of solving the problem of the system structure identification and on-line monitoring of its parameters’ changes and signals. Offshore drilling platform is a complex facility involving a complex automation system consisting of a lot of elements. Each element is the source of the risk accidents that can lead to catastrophic consequences. The article presents the results of evaluation of the causes of these situations occurrence provoked by the specifics of organization of the systems for automatic control of drilling and the human factor when interacting with them.
